Changing Behavior

Friends, Family and sometimes even a stranger on the street will ask me why I am always talking about Burning Behavior or using examples of people that I claim are burning their stuff up. Well, one, its because they are. And two if you consciously THINK about a behavior before you do it you can stop it or you can say to yourself yes I need to do this now but maybe not tomorrow if I plan ahead. For instance everytime I get in my car I think, Do I need to start this car? Lots of time I don’t even put the key in the ignition. I get out and go do something else. Why?

Well I run this thought experiment through  my head. Imagine if you will, that your tail pipe of your car has a real long flexible plastic hose on it. Imagine that the hose goes through a hole in your window (the pipe is seal so nothing can come back out the window) and lays on your living room flour. All the carbon soot, exhaust gases, unspent gasoline, and water coming from your car engine goes directly in your house. Say you do 20 or 30 miles of driving. What do you think your living room would look like when you got home. Do you think you could even go in and LIVE? It would be a mess. Even after you “aired the place out” that new car smell would probably linger for days.

The point being that if you think about it like that you drive less, and if everyone drove less the Earth would be a better place. Think about every burning behaior you do and quit one. Its easy.

Energy Tough Love
Current mood: hopeful
Category: hopeful News and Politics

I am starting this here but i hope to eventually hook up with Community Energy Systems web so i can continue writing there. The whole point of this blog is that the people’s of the world have to learn how to quit DIGGING things up or CUTTING things down and burning them.

By this I mean that burning coal, uranium, natural gas and wood has let us to a dead end as a civilization. But it is hard to stop burning stuff up because its so easy to do. In fact fires start spontaneously which means that it must be real easy to do. But its bad for us and its bad for the planet so we must stop. Yet like many easy things that you do it is hard to just quit so i am going to store comments here that point to the way to do that.

By the way I live in Riverton a little tiny town in Central Illinois and no I am not on a rampage against lawn mowers and barbeque grills…at least not just yet…more on that later. It is Suday  August the 5th 2007. Any comment are welcome

Energy Tough Love (the beginning)

I call this weblog Energy Tough Love because its about Burning Behavior and how to switch to Earth Stewardship Behavior. Hell (excuse me) burning things up is easy, sometimes things just catch on fire by themselves. That is probably where we got the idea in the first place. Spontaneous Combustion aside, digging combustables up and cutting them down is a very primitive behavior that is 1000’s of years old. Humans probably should have given up such behavior a long time ago for Earth Stewardship Behaviors, but we have lacked the leadership to do so. Hopefully this blog will help foster ESBs while convincing people to stop burning things ONE fire at a time.
