This is like sooooooo weird. !?
Lets see, you mate, spend 6 weeks hatching them, feed them until they can leave the nest and then….must be a first time mother.
It happened again damn it! I was so into the “important stuff” that I forgot about the weird bird thingy. As always dedicated to the committed pacifists and antiwar activists John and Susan who started weird bird friday. They blog about all things Denver and their link is to the right somewhere on this page.
Whats so weird about this Bird you might ask (probably not)?
Well for one, the boys are prettier than the girls (these are gold finches).
For another, they eat upside down…you can barely make out the one at the bottom of the feeder (because I am so lousy with the camera) indeed upside down. Thank God we are human.!?
I know its totally weird that I spend so much time on the Illinois State Fair, but if I don’t get my corndog, my lemon shakeup, my french fries with the skins on doused in malt and our trip to the Chicken show at the Orr building, I can get cranky. Yes we tour the sheep barn too, but don’t expect any Weird Sheep Friday anytime soon.
Animal lovers and PETA people close your eyes because this is 2000-3000 Birds all in once place in …how can I say it…ah CAGES.
And yes John and Susan we go to the Chicken show every year…
First up the prize winning Turkey (no kidding)!
Then the prize winning Duck (quack quack) it really is a loud building to visit.
Showing some cute duck ass.
Mic Jagger the Chicken.
The dancing nearly naked chicken.
And This BAD BOY in all his glory.
Those little things sticking out of the water bowel – yea they are chicken straws and who would break the last one?
Finally the big question -would you eat this angry bird? No probably not. Eggs – no way!
To the seminal question “Do chickens have lips”? Oddly the technical answer is yes! Look very very closely.
While visiting John and Susan (whose BLOG this is a blatant rip off of) in the Denver area we saw this bird who seemed to be everywhere and really interested in the local views. IT was weird in that he/she/it seemed unperturbed by humans and loved to have its picture taken,
But what the bird was looking at was weirder by far.
Something you don’t see often, smelly elk shedding their smelly fur.
and he also saw the truely weird birds: me and my buddy Wayne!
Have a good weekend! Please note I have on a LEAN t-shirt and that is my environmental statement for today!
I went to Mason City to see my sister Joann who lives in Dothan Alabama whom I had not seen for awhile so I did not get to post a Weird Bird on Friday. So as a tribute to fellow blogger, canoeist, and all round camper John Martin and his better half Susan Kay I post my birds today. His blog is www.thedrunkablog.blogspot.com.
One of the reasons I want people to burn less is not for people but for our fellow companions on this planet, the flora and the fauna. Cate and I have numerous butterfly and bird attractors on our spralling spread. So I wanted to show you all our little flitters and flyers. Unfortunately:
There were no golden finches on the finch feeder,
no barn swallows on their nest,
and no humming birds on their feeder!!
In fact the closest birds I could find were these little starlings up on the pole at the corner of our property.
Which of course you can not see because its a “point and shoot” digital fricking camera that I still can’t seem to get the hang of. So what gives? And then I saw the problem.
Where the heck is Billy Bob (John and Susans beloved frisby chasing dog) when you need him?
But I did get a shot that shows that birds indeed land on electrical wires and live unlike the last weird bird.
2 doves (errr actually pigeons) sitting on a wire. Ahhh isn’t love grand.
